“Defund Police” is a rallying cry among some in our society. “We need more law and order” others argue. Today we’ll examine the Old Testament concepts of ‘hue and cry’ (Deuteronomy 22:23-27) as well as the Kinsmen-Redeemer (Ruth 4). We’ll see the call in the New Testament for the State to provide order and protection (Romans 13). In both Testaments we have the call to treat one another as image bearers of God (Genesis 1:27, Galatians 3:27-28).
