Going SOMEWHERE, Destination TBD

Posted by Stephanie Dick on

This month I signed up for a 10-month mission trip with MB Mission’s TREK program. Here’s the crazy thing… I don’t even know where I am going. Some of the options for places that I could end up are Lisbon, Portugal; Bielefeld, Germany; Chonburi, Thailand; or Tbilisi, Georgia (Russia). The organization itself chooses where you go based on your gifts and team members you’ll be working with. I don’t where I will be going but I do know that I will be using my gifts to serve where I am best needed. I will be learning to listen and obey what God is asking me to do; relinquishing my own rights; and learning to delight in Him, in whatever I do.

If you asked me what stirred this mission, the first thing I would tell you is Gracepoint’s former pastor Phil Wagler. But it goes so much deeper than that. I crave adventure and I desire to do God’s will. I also believe He gave me this longing to go out into the world and serve Him. The two words that have been on my heart since hearing about TREK are listen and obey; and that is what I am doing - listening and obeying where God is leading me.

I am most excited about the unknown. I don’t know where I am going, and I don’t know what God has planned for me, but I am excited to go where He is leading me and see what he wants to do in and through me. I am also really excited to meet new people, be immersed in a new culture, and have opportunities to serve and talk about Jesus.

I am most apprehensive about leaving everything behind. Going away for a year is a long time, and I’m not going to lie - I am sacrificing a lot to go: job security (I graduate from nursing in a month), income, family, friends, reputation at school and my plan for my life. This decision is not logical! It’s also not easy, but I am learning more and more of the path that God is calling me on is not easy, it require sacrifice. God sees so much more than we see and His plan is SO much bigger than we can understand. Going on this trip might not be logical from a worldly point of view, but it has HIS kingdom logic written all over it. And I crave nothing more and to bring God’s kingdom to this earth.

Stay tuned - this adventure is JUST starting!
